Blog Smarter, Not Harder: How We Use ChatGPT to Help with Blogging and SEO

Blogging Made Easy with ChatGPT

Hey friends! It's Whitney and Amanda here from The Edit, and if you've ever stared at a blank screen trying to figure out what to blog about—or how to make it sound like you—we totally get it. Blogging can feel like a chore, especially when you've got sessions to edit, emails to write, and the never-ending task of social media.

That's why, in this week's episode, we're walking through one of our favorite tools that has made blogging so much easier: ChatGPT. In fact, we wrote this blog following the advice we give! We think of ChatGPt as a virtual assistant who knows SEO never gets tired, and can answer our questions right away.

Whether you're a family, senior, or wedding photographer, this episode will help by showing you exactly how we use it to brainstorm ideas, write posts, and rank better in search results. Want an introduction to ChatGPT? Check out one of our early episodes on using ChatGPT for your photography business here.

Why Blogging Still Matters for Photographers

We know it can feel old-school, but blogging still does SO much for your photography business. It:

  • Helps people find you on Google

  • Builds trust and connection with future clients

  • Lets you share your personality and style

  • Lives longer than any Instagram post ever will

But here's the thing: we've both put off blogging, even though we know how good it is for our business, because it feels overwhelming. That's where ChatGPT comes in to help.

How We Use ChatGPT to Make Blogging Easier

We love using ChatGPT to brainstorm, especially for tasks that are difficult for us to start. We use it to:

  • Come up with blog ideas that speak to our ideal clients

  • Draft blog posts in a casual, conversational tone

  • Find and use SEO keywords without sounding robotic

  • Save HOURS so we can get back to doing what we love

We're not just telling you what could work—we use these tools and have a lot of fun with them. They've made a massive difference in helping us blog more consistently.

Go-To Keyword Tools (That Won't Break the Bank)

If you're blogging to improve SEO (and you should be!), here are our top 3 favorite affordable keyword tools:

  • Ubersuggest: Super helpful for finding keyword ideas, volume, and difficulty—plus, it has a great free plan.

  • Answer the Public: Want to know what people are Googling? This one gives you actual questions to answer in your blogs.

  • Google Trends: Spot what's gaining popularity and ensure your blog content is timely and relevant.

Using ChatGPT with Web Browsing for Real-Time Keyword Research

If you can access ChatGPT with web browsing (this is in the Plus plan!), it opens up even more ways to use it. You can literally ask it to:

  • Search for current keyword trends in your niche

  • Check what people are typing into Google right now

  • Compare different keywords to see which one is stronger

Try prompts like:

  • "Find trending keywords for photographers in Minneapolis, MN."

  • "What do people search before hiring a family photographer in Washington?"

  • "Compare search volume for 'Seattle family photographer' vs. 'family photo shoot locations in Seattle'."

Copy-and-Paste ChatGPT Prompts You Can Use Today

We know how hard it can be to know what to ask ChatGPT. So here's your cheat sheet:

Keyword Research Prompts

  • "Give me a list of SEO keywords for a [YOUR SPECIALTY] photographer in [YOUR CITY]."

  • "What are long-tail keywords for a [YOUR SPECIALTY] photographer in [YOUR AREA]?"

  • "What are people searching before booking a [YOUR NICHE] session in [YOUR CITY]?"

Blog Writing Prompts

  • "Create an outline for a blog post about preparing for a [YOUR TYPE OF] photo session."

  • "Write a blog post from this outline in a friendly (sarcastic, funny, formal) tone."

  • "Use the keyword '[YOUR NICHE] photographer [YOUR CITY]' naturally throughout."

Voice and Style Prompts

  • "Rewrite this blog post in my voice. I'm a fun, down-to-earth (or whatever you are!) [YOUR NICHE] photographer who works with [YOUR CLIENT TYPE]."

  • "Make this sound like I'm talking to a real client, not a robot."

Optimization Prompts

  • "Check this blog for grammar mistakes."

  • "Make this more SEO-friendly without sounding stiff. Use the keyword '[YOUR MAIN KEYWORD]'."

  • "Tighten this up but keep it casual and conversational."

Final Thoughts from Us

At the end of the day, using ChatGPT for blogging isn't meant to replace you. Think of it as a time-saving co-writer! Blogging doesn't have to be so hard, and this tool really does make it easier.

If one of your 2025 goals is to blog more consistently, this is your sign to open up ChatGPT, grab a few prompts, and just get started. You've got this!

Let us know in the comments or on Instagram if you try any of these tips after watching our episode. We'd love to cheer you on!
